39th V G C Rally to Spitzerberg / Austria
The annual gathering of vintage gliders, organized by the Vintage Glider
Club (VGC) took place this year from 30 July to 6 August, at Spitzerberg
in northern Austria a few miles from Vienna and Bratislava. For some
it was a long journey, but in the end all agreed: "It was worth it."
During the meeting took place the ceremony in memory of the President
and founder of the VGC Chris Wills, who died recently
But let's see some numbers. The gliders officially registered and enrolled
at the event were 75, but we could say that there were over eighty in
the field, considering the vintage gliders belonging to the club of Spitzerberg.
The 125 pilots registered from more than twenty foreign countries, including
Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In all, between pilots and visitors,
has exceeded the number of 400. Excellent the organization of the club
to meet in full the number of appearances.
The flights were carried out on three lines, one with a tow motor, another
launch with a winch and another one for launch with elastic cord.
Fine evenings were organized by the Club
of Spitzerberg and nice sightseeing planned in case of bad weather
and especially for the wives of the pilots.
