In flight pictures:

Even one who has never flown a glider knows, or can easily imagine, the silence around a pilot while soaring.
In my case, as Specialized Passenger, that silence can be broken only by the shutter of my photo camera.
During all my glider flights, with vintage gliders only of course, I always enjoyed to take in-flight pictures, not only of the beautiful landscape, but mainly of other sailplanes flying at the same time and inside the same thermal. I think this is one of the most difficult conditions for taking a photo, because both the photographer (myself) and the subject, are in motion.
There is not much time to decide the shutter to use and the zoom to select.
Somebody would say: “Why not to work in automatic?” Results, believe me, would not be the same.
I forgot to mention an additional problem.
The sudden change of light.
Let me explain what I mean.
The best condition for flying gliders is not when the sky is completely blue, but when you have a lot of Cumulus which generate lift.
That means that you may go suddenly from a strong sunny light, into a cloudy shadow, without enough time to reset your camera. I hope I have explained clearly the difficulties of in-flight photography and as far I am concerned, I found a way to cope with it.
I shoot several times hoping that in the quantity some good pictures may come out.
Do not ask me how many shots I took for the photos I am showing you. The answer would for sure be: “Several!”
