My articles:
I always hated to write compositions at school, but later I changed my mind as I understood the reason why I did not like it at the beginning. Very simple: In school it was the teacher to decide the topic and very often it did not fit my taste.
Today, I enjoy writing about my favourite subject: Motorless flight. I started by chance when one day the Director of the Italian Magazine Volo a Vela told me: “Vincenzo, you are really a lucky man travelling around the world and attending to so many vintage glider meetings. Why don’t you write reports for or magazine and share with us your wonderful experience?”
That’s how I started my career of “journalist” and soon after other magazines, or news letters editors, approached me to write some reports for them too. And that is the greatest reward when you write for some magazine: you meet new people and you can exchange your experience with them. No matter how much you know; you can always learn more from other people.
My articles on the Centenary of the 1st International Gliding Competition
This year 2024 is a particular year to write, a year that takes us back a hundred years, when in Asiago the National Air League, with the support of the "Gazzetta dello Sport", organized the first International Gliding Competition, completely unknown at that time in Italy. Also unknown... by the Verona customs officers who blocked the German gliders shipped by rail because they lacked engines and propellers. How could those machines fly without these two important elements. Only after a few days, thanks to the intervention of the Minister of Transport, the German gliders were freed. Maybe it wasn't just the customs officers who didn't know that you could fly even without an engine and propeller...
Given the importance of the event, which marked the beginning of gliding in Italy, I couldn't help but take pen and paper to remind the aeronautical world what was happening on the slopes of Mount Sisemol in Asiago in October 1924, exactly a century ago! Italian, German, French and English magazines are publishing my articles accompanied by precious vintage photographs, taken on glass support by the photographer Cav. Cristiano Domenico Bonomo.
To complete the commemoration of the event, we are organizing an International Vintage Glider Meeting from 6 to 14 September 2024 at the Romeo Sartori airport in Asiago. We count on an important European presence and in particular the German one, as the German pilots were the real animators and executors of the competition.
